Materials & Textures

  • Baby Alpaca

The physical characteristics of Alpaca fibre allow the manufacturing of products with superior performance in extreme climates, in both cold as well as warm weather.

Microscopically, animal fibres have the appearence of a palm tree with scales. While the height of the scales in wool is between 0,65 7o 0,90 microns, the Alpaca fibre hardly reaches 0,25 microns. These characteristics make Alpaca fibre much softer and smoother than other animal fibres or cotton.

  • Suri Alpaca

There are two existent types of Alpacas: the Huacayo and the Suri. Huacayo, the more common one, represents 93% of Peru’s alpaca population, known for its dense, crimped fiber. Meanwhile, the Suri boasts long, silky strands with exceptional luster, the choice of SHTELLE!

Alpaca fibre are classified into nine pure colors with many other subtle shades and hues, allowing the fibre to be blended into a wide array of natural colors, including combinations that do not occour naturally, thereby avoiding industrial dying and saving considerable amounts of water and energy.

  • Merino Wool

Merino wool is a natural fibre grown year-round by Merino sheep on farms across Australia. Considered to be one of the world’s finest and softest wool in the world; Australian woolgrowers produce it using sustainable farming practices.

Unlike synthetics which are industrially produced from non-renewable fossil energy, Merino wool is manufactured consuming a simple blend of natural ingredients including sunshine, water, fresh air and grass. Every year these sheep produce new fleece, making wool a completely renewable fibre.
